Sports Round-Up Sept. 21

Selma Markisic, a senior guard on the Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, girls’ varsity basketball team, has committed to continue her hoops career in college at Hosftra University, Hempstead, L.I. A Tablet All-Star the past two seasons, Markisic averaged 9.0 pts. and 3.0 rebounds per game as a junior.


The Brooklyn Cyclones, the Class A short-season affiliate of the New York Mets, won the New York-Penn League championship on Sept. 10 with a 4-3 victory over the Lowell Spinners. The win marked the first outright league title for the Cyclones in franchise history. In their inaugural season of 2001, the Cyclones were co-league champions with the Williamsport Crosscutters.


Good Shepherd parish, Marine Park, will host its 18th annual Fall Classic Golf Outing on Friday, Sept. 27 in memory of Firefighter Steven Pollard. The event will be held at Riis Park Pitch & Putt starting at 1 p.m. An after-party will follow at 5 p.m. at The Knights of Columbus Nostrand Avenue and Quentin Road.
