Dear Editor: It was wonderful to see an article (Nov. 25) in The Tablet about my former parish, Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Jamaica, and the restored bell tower.
There was one error where it stated that “the bells have been silent for half a century.” When I was pastor, I had the Verdin Company install a new bell system which was blessed by Bishop Cisneros on Nov. 21, 2007. This system rang all three bells in the tower, which was used for weddings, funerals, special celebrations and the Angelus. The bells rang every day from then until my departure in June 2014.
Also, my predecessor, Father Stephen Lynch, had set up that one of the bells could ring at least for funerals.
