Dear Editor: I am appealing to the Bishops in the U.S. to consider calling for a very serious prayer effort to hold back the decision of the Supreme Court from going the way of Ireland on marriage. This we know is very likely as the powerful and wealthy homosexual lobby is making great advances in our culture.
By the end of June, the Supreme Court will rule on whether to make same-sex marriage a constitutional right. That does not bode well for anyone especially the Catholic Church who will surely be forced to perform these actions or face a definite and serious persecution. We already see it coming.
The three women on the Supreme Court – Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ruth Bader Ginsburg – have already shown their arrogant disregard and disrespect for their high office by openly officiating at same-sex weddings. Some see this as a cue of how they will vote. Others say the three of them should recuse themselves since they are unable to vote objectively. Recently, Ruth Bader Ginsburg “married” two men and was quoted as saying, “‘By the power vested in me by the United States Constitution.’”
In 2011, the people of New York had the rug pulled out from under them when Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the dark of night signed the Marriage Equality bill allowing homosexual marriage in our state.
In the short time we have left – one month – I am asking our bishops to consider putting out a clarion call of prayer and fasting to the parishes, pastors, priests and faithful to push back homosexual marriage, and to keep marriage between one man and one woman. It should be serious prayer, not just a line inserted in the prayers of the faithful or an extra rosary here and there.
