BOROUGH PARK — Maria Parente is a registered nurse who, these days, is working 12-hour shifts at Maimonides Medical Center. And that’s on a “good day.”
There have been many long days, some as long as 14 hours, for Parente and her colleagues at the 711-bed hospital in Brooklyn.
Jennie Lee Vasquez predicts that the COVID-19 pandemic will change the public’s view of nurses for the better.
“I know something spectacular will come out of this. There’s a whole new re- spect for nurses,” said Vasquez, a nurse at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. She speaks from experience, having been a nurse for 10 years.
