A Well Deserved Award For Pope Leo XIV

Dear Editor: Pope Leo XIV is a worthy recipient of the Liberty Medal, (“Liberty Medal to Honor Pope Leo XIV Ahead of America’s 250th Anniversary,” April 2).

He has, from the very beginning of his papacy — with a strong intent and courage — spoken out in support of the poor and immigrants and against injustice and violence, especially unjust war.

Questions on the Prayer of the Faithful

Dear Editor: I was enjoying a beautiful Palm Sunday Mass until I heard the Prayers of the Faithful.

My problem is that one of the intentions was about the death penalty. Now, I am against the death penalty because I believe only God can take life, but I also know it is accepted in some instances. The problem is this: How can anyone who claims to be Catholic mention the death penalty without mentioning the death penalty for unborn children, better known as abortion?

Dear Editor: Why are our churches not praying for our men and women in the U.S. military service for the Prayer of the Faithful?

Our country is at war, and we should be praying for their protection and safety in defending our country.

We should also be praying for the ones who have lost their lives for this cause and for all the innocent victims, along with their families. And we should also pray for America.

At first, I thought it was just my church, but I have gone to a different church, and it is the same thing.

Editor’s note: While there are liturgical resources that multiple parishes may employ to assist with the creation of the prayers of the faithful, many parishes rely on the assistance of a member of the pastoral team to assist with finalizing these each week. Bear in mind there will always be countless prayers and this is a small sample of intentions.
