Letters to the Editor

Tribute to Det. McDonald

Dear Editor: Thank you for your beautiful editorial comments about our now sorely-missed Detective McDonald.

Among the things that I most remember about him was the fact that he would always be in his wheelchair in front of all the pews – even in front of the Mayor and Police Commissioner – at Midnight Mass at St. Patrick’s at Christmas.

He was a true model of graciousness and, forgiveness for all of us. In a country which has become so bitterly divided that we can have one result in the popular vote and the opposite in the electoral college, his message to us would be to get over losing or to not gloat over winning, but to just accept each other as we are and to work together – yes, together – dare I say it?
