Siebel Will Be Honored by NYS Charities Directors

Robert Siebel, the recently retired chief executive officer of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, and Deborah Damm O’Brien, executive director of Catholic Charities Housing and DePaul Housing Management of Albany, will be honored by the New York State Council of Catholic Charities Directors at their annual convening in Albany on Monday, Feb. 9, at the Hilton Hotel, in downtown Albany.

Seibel will receive the Bishop Mugavero Award for outstanding contributions to the work of charity and social justice. The award is named for the late Bishop of Brooklyn, who also served the diocese as director of Catholic Charities.

Damm O’Brien will receive the Vincenza DeFazio Award for outstanding contributions to the work of New York State Council of Catholic Charities Directors. The award is named for a deceased long-time attorney with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York.

Seibel has been with Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens since 1973. He served 11 years as chief executive officer and executive director, growing it into one of the largest Catholic Charities agencies in the country. He retired Nov. 1, 2014.

Damm O’Brien has served at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany for 15 years as executive director of Catholic Charities Housing and Diocesan Property Management and Housing Services.

For the last five years, she has also served as executive director of Catholic Charities Senior Services in Schenectady. In addition to serving as a member of the N.Y.S. Council of Catholic Charities Directors and chair of its Housing Committee, she is a member of the N.Y.S. Medicaid Redesign Team’s Affordable Housing Workgroup. She also serves as a member of the Supportive Housing Network of New York’s Board of Directors, where she is the chairperson of its State Advocacy Committee.
