Sister Kathleen Bernadette Kane, C.S.J.

Sister Kathleen Bernadette Kane, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, L.I., for 68 years, died at Sacred Heart Convent, Hempstead, L.I., Jan. 2.

She entered the congregation from Our Lady of Good Counsel parish, Bedford-Stuyvesant, in 1948.

She attended St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology, in 1961.

Formerly known as Sister Joseph Bernard, she taught at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sunset Park, 1950-54, and 1959-61; St. Michael, Flushing, 1954-59; St. Vincent de Paul, Elmont, L.I., 1961-69; St. Vincent de Paul, Williamsburg, 1969-70; and St. Benedict Joseph Labre, Richmond Hill, 1970-88.

She served as secretary at St. Teresa of Avila, Prospect Heights, 1988-91, and plant manager at Stella Maris H.S., Rockaway Park, 1991-2010.

During her retirement, she volunteered in Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Sacred Heart Chapel, Brentwood, Jan. 7. Interment followed in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.

  1. So sorry to hear this. Sister Kathleen was always a very kind and generous person. I knew her from St. Bendict Joseph Labre Parish in Richmond Hill. She will be deeply missed.
