Columnist’s Opinion

Dear Editor: I was disappointed in Effie Caldarola’s column (Oct. 24) “Seeing ‘the Other’ in the Year of Mercy.”

I always enjoy reading her essays that are syndicated by Catholic News Service. However, I expect her to be politically neutral.

When writing about Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s autobiography, she allowed herself to insert a subjective view concerning the current field of presidential hopefuls. This attempt to influence her readers is unacceptable.

I would hope that in the future she would stay away from politics when trying to bolster her premises.
