The Brooklyn Nets announced at a press conference at Barclays Center, Downtown Brooklyn, that arguably the best player in franchise history, Jason Kidd, will take over as the team’s head coach.

Kidd spent 19 seasons in the NBA and recently retired at the age of 40. He spent last season with the New York Knicks.

Growing up in the San Francisco area, Kidd attended Catholic elementary school at St. Pascal Baylon, Oakland Hills, Calif., and Catholic high school at St. Joseph Notre Dame, Alameda, Calif.

Kidd becomes the 18th coach in Nets’ history. He said he is excited for the opportunity that lies ahead of him, especially since he gets the chance to coach the franchise he once played for.
